Parallel Processing of Hydraulically Independent DMAs in WS Pro

For utilities managing large water distribution systems, there is clear value in maintaining multiple distribution networks (DMAs) within a single WS Pro model, particularly when each DMA is hydraulically independent and bounded by fixed‑head conditions.

In these cases, each DMA effectively forms an independent hydraulic system, which means the overall simulation naturally decomposes into separate subsystems. This presents an opportunity to improve performance by allowing WS Pro to leverage multi‑threaded CPU capabilities within a single simulation run, processing hydraulically independent DMAs in parallel.

Beyond performance, a unified model simplifies topology updates and control management, reduces duplication of effort, and helps maintain consistency across the network. A targeted intra‑simulation optimization based on hydraulic independence would allow users to retain these benefits while improving simulation efficiency for large, highly controlled networks.
