Calculation of depth along a pipe

This is relevant to both ICM and IAM/IAO, but particularly useful for IAM/IAO users. The implementation will be in the Geoplan and long section profiles of all 3 products. My preference is a hover over tool-tip. Clearly the supporting data such as ground levels of upstream and downstream manholes will be require to interpolate the ground surface profile above the pipe, or a DTM used to represent the topography of the surface. The pipe's upstream and downstream invert levels will also be required (gradient is calculated). The subtraction of the interpolated ground level above the pipe elevation interpolated at any point along the pipe will give the depth. This is a relatively easy calculation to perform.

The use case presented by Fluvius is as follows. Field crews assessing a proposed sewer lateral need to know not only where the existing sewer main is, but also its estimated depth at the intended tie-in point. Standard mapping and asset records may contain manhole levels and pipe geometry without providing a ready-to-use depth value at an arbitrary position between manholes.

A customer requests a new foul sewer lateral. A field crew must determine whether a practical connection is likely to be feasible. Although the sewer main and adjacent properties are visible on the map, the depth at the prospective junction may not be directly available. The workflow is designed to provide a preliminary, traceable estimate at a defined location, rather than requiring field users to interpolate manually.
