Users can set up different configurations of their data grids depending on the work they are doing. They can then save the grid layouts as default for a particular network, or default for the type of network, and export to an iws file. This is particularly useful for InfoAsset Manager users because there are so many personas and projects that they could be working on which will require quick and easy access to data in the multitude of columns. This is more of an issue for an IAM user because of the sheer number of data types with grids, and the much greater number of fields to display and trawl through to find (I know there is a Find Column capability).
You will see if you go to the Grid>Save Grid Layout menu that the "Save to Database Object" is disabled. It would be a big improvement to the management of the data grids and the use of data grids if the grid layout could be saved as a database object and available in the Explorer tree. The user could then quickly switch to the view depending on the work they are doing rather than having to re-configure the layout to suit. The layout saving would include the order of the columns, hidden columns, freeze columns. The user could then drag and drop / open the Grid database object which would open the specific data grid that was saved and the columns ordered in the way they want.

Thank you for the suggestion and thanks to those who voted.
I agree that it would be useful to be able to save grid layout as a database object. I discussed the feasibility of this with the development team yesterday, and we agreed to move the status of this to "Under Consideration" I will keep an eye on the number of votes and will keep you all updated with the status of this.
Thank you again for the suggestion.
Additionally, this functionality to save grid layouts would be very useful for the grid views that are opened directly from a long section view (profile), as these grid views do not currently have the ability for a layout to be saved as default.
