In models created using ICM by Japanese users, it is not uncommon for both approaches—one where rainfall is applied to subcatchments and flood from the network flows over 2D elements, and another where rainfall is applied directly to the 2D zone—to be used together within a single 2D zone. In such cases, after enabling the option “Apply rainfall etc directly to mesh elements” in the 2D zone properties, it is necessary to select “Outside subcatchments (outside subcatchments and buildings)” under the “Apply rainfall etc” setting.
However, this function determines the applicable area based on subcatchment polygons, and therefore cannot be used correctly if those polygons are not present. It is common to build models without creating subcatchment polygons, and creating them solely for the purpose of using this function can be burdensome. Would it be possible to develop a method that enables rainfall to be applied directly to mesh elements within a specific area of a 2D zone, even when subcatchment polygons have not been created?
