reduce validation time of models with infiltration zones

When using rainfall onto mesh in InfoWorks ICM, we often rely on infiltration zones to represent different land uses and their runoff characteristics (e.g., impermeable surfaces, grass, etc.). To ensure full coverage and avoid gaps or "donuts" in the infiltration data, we use a dense raster of infiltration zones – typically with a resolution of 2 x 2 meters.

This approach leads to a very large number of infiltration polygons, often exceeding 1 million. The downside is that the validation process becomes extremely slow – sometimes taking more than 20 minutes – even when no other issues are present in the model.

Idea:
Can the validation process be optimized or parallelized so that models with large numbers of infiltration zones (e.g., >1 million) can be validated more quickly?

Faster validation would greatly improve the workflow for users working with detailed, realistic infiltration data in rainfall onto mesh models.

do you actually have enough soil coverage to justify modeling such a small area? are you using CN by any change? How sensitive are your assumptions about the infiltration coverage? If you just model a bigger but still small infiltration zone the number of zones will shrink dramatically,
