Initial condition 1D setting value

For Initial Conditions 1D, InfoWorks ICM seems to specify 1) initial level(m AD) and inflow values at nodes for Nodes grid, 2) and initial depth (m) and flow values along the river reach for River Reaches grid. For river reaches grid, as an initial condition, I would like to assign (water surface) level values too. That is more easy to set up, and seems to be sensible especially for natural river profile with a lot of bottom level undulation.

Thank you for taking the time to share this suggestion. I can see why being able to assign an initial water surface level directly for 1D river reaches would feel more intuitive, especially when working with natural river profiles.

At the moment though, this sits quite low in our priority list compared with other planned work, so we won’t be moving ahead with it in the near term. The current ICM initialisation process is designed to generate a stable starting condition for rivers, and in most cases it can be relied on to produce the appropriate initial water level based on the rest of the network setup.

We’ll keep your feedback recorded for future consideration should priorities change.
