By default, flow direction arrows show up as blue for forward flow, red for backwards flow. This is a pointless distinction because for distribution systems, "forwards" or "backwards" depends on the direction the pipe was initially digitized and has no bearing on the results. Flow arrows are useful, but coloring the arrows red and blue adds to the visual clutter when evaluating a model and makes it difficult to see real problem areas. The user can set the color in the ArcGIS table of contents, but every time the Map Display settings are applied, the colors go back to the default distracting red/blue.
Please do one or both of the following:
Remove the "Forward" and "Backward" grouping and make the default arrow symbol be a single, non-distracting color (I like transparent fill, but white, gray, or black fill would also work)
Allow the user to specify and save the default symbol for the arrows in Preferences>Default Symbol tab, or somewhere in the "Map Display" dialog window.
